Helen Mirren to Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Bynes: "Don't Be Up Your Own Bum"—Watch Now

Helen Mirren knows a thing or two about having a lasting career in the entertainment biz.

During a press junket for her upcoming movie Red 2, the 67-year-old dame was asked what advice she would give to oft-troubled starlets like Amanda Bynes and Lindsay Lohan. And with her typical candor, she answered with a bit of tough love directed toward these two ladies and the rest of Hollywood's younger generation.

"I don't know if you're allowed to say this on television," she began. "But don't be up your own bum."

"People get up their own [bum], and you really don't need to," she continued. "It's the thing of the young. Just—just don't do that."

Solid advice. And for what it's worth, Helen realizes everyone is prone to making some mistakes early in their careers. "We're all idiots when we're young." She told Esquire in 2011. "We don't think we are, but we are. So we should be."

"The hardest period in life is one's twenties," she said. (Lindsay and Amanda are both 27.)  "It's a shame because you're your most gorgeous and you're physically in peak condition. But it's actually when you're most insecure and full of self-doubt. When you don't know what's going to happen, it's frightening."

Another thing Ms. Mirren wouldn't recommend for twentysomethings? Going under the knife. "The only thing I don't like on young people is plastic surgery," she told InStyle. "You go, I don't want to look at that face anymore and I understand completely, I think people should be allowed to do whatever they want to make themselves feel happy." She added, however, that she just doesn't get why younger women would want to ruin the "purity" of their bodies. 

Not pointing any fingers, but it might be something good to keep in mind moving forward.

And as the millennial stars get closer and closer to 30, they don't need to worry about losing their hotness.  

"Women don't lose their sex appeal as they get older," Helen said. "It's some kind of indeterminate thing—an appreciation of life and wisdom and other things."

What a wise and beautiful woman!
