Ashley Madekwe's 3 Rules for Summer Fashion

Summer is here! And while the heat and humidity can present some interesting fashion challenges, there's no reason to let your style suffer as the temps climb.

Not sure what to wear? Not to worry. We tapped the ultimate fashionista, former Revenge actress, street style star and cofounder of the hit blog, Ring My Bell, Ashley Madekwe, to get her three rules on how to look effortlessly fabulous all summer long.

Here's what she shared:

1. Wear a Breezy Top: It can get hot outside in July, so wear something that breathes. "A light cotton cami is always great to stay cool," Ashley says. The best part? Even though a tank is technically a summer top, throw a blazer or cardigan over it to easily transition into fall. Talk about double duty.

2. Try Denim Cutoffs: "I love denim cutoffs for summer," she shares. Slip into a distressed pair to make your outfit instantly on trend this summer. The easiest way to get cutoffs? Make them yourself! Take an older pair of jeans (ones you don't wear a lot) and cut them above the knee. No need to cut in a straight line because they'll look that much cooler frayed. Tip: This works best if the jeans are slightly looser to start, so they're not skin tight on your thighs.

3. Rock a Flat: "If I'm outside, I want something flat on my feet," she spills. "Comfort is key for a barbecue." Not sure what type of flats to buy? Try a ballet flat in a neutral color. They'll go with everything, and you'll be able to wear over and over throughout the summer.
